Canvas Pilot terms
A study companion—not the official record.
These terms govern your use of the Canvas Pilot website, browser connector, synchronization service, and optional MCP connections. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.
Last updated September 23, 2026
The short version
- Canvas Pilot is an independent, read-only companion and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Instructure, Canvas, or your school.
- You choose when to sync. Canvas Pilot stores an organized snapshot, not a live or official school record.
- Always confirm deadlines, grades, instructions, and submission status in Canvas or with your school.
- Use the service lawfully, protect your account, and do not upload credentials or content you are not allowed to access.
1. Who may use Canvas Pilot
You may use Canvas Pilot if you are at least 13 years old, can legally agree to these terms, and are authorized to access the Canvas coursework you synchronize. If applicable law requires a parent or guardian’s consent, you must have that consent. You are responsible for following your school’s acceptable-use, academic-integrity, privacy, and technology policies.
2. What the service does
Canvas Pilot helps you organize coursework you can already view in a signed-in Canvas browser session. The connector makes read-only requests, creates an allowlisted snapshot, and sends that snapshot to your private Canvas Pilot account. The website and an MCP client you separately authorize can read your stored snapshot after the collecting computer is off.
Canvas Pilot does not submit assignments, start assessments, post discussions, change grades, or modify Canvas. It does not replace Canvas, instructor directions, school notices, or other official records.
3. Your account and security
- Provide accurate account information and keep your sign-in method and devices secure.
- Do not share pairing codes, device credentials, OAuth grants, or access to your account.
- Tell us through the support page if you suspect unauthorized access.
- You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless caused by a failure within Canvas Pilot’s control.
4. Acceptable use
You may use Canvas Pilot only for lawful personal study and organization. You may not:
- access or synchronize another person’s account or coursework without authorization;
- upload passwords, cookies, session tokens, malicious code, or data you do not have the right to use;
- probe, disrupt, overload, bypass, or interfere with the service or another user’s access;
- use Canvas Pilot to cheat, violate academic-integrity rules, infringe rights, or break school policy or law; or
- misrepresent Canvas Pilot as an official Canvas or school service.
5. Your content and privacy
You keep any rights you have in the information you synchronize. You give Canvas Pilot permission to process and store that information only as needed to provide, secure, and support the service you request. You represent that you have the right to provide the information for those purposes.
The Privacy Policy explains what Canvas Pilot collects, how it is used, where it is processed, and how to request access or deletion. Do not use the public issue tracker for coursework, grades, personal information, account identifiers, or credentials.
6. Third-party services
Canvas Pilot works with services such as Canvas, Appwrite, Railway, Chrome, and optional MCP clients such as ChatGPT. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices. Canvas Pilot does not control their availability, policies, school-specific configuration, or content.
7. Accuracy and availability
A snapshot can be incomplete, delayed, or out of date. Course weights, dates, grades, completion state, imported syllabus text, links, and AI-generated answers may be missing or incorrect. Check Canvas and instructor communications before acting on important information.
The service may change, pause, or become unavailable. Keep any records you need elsewhere; Canvas Pilot is not a backup service and does not promise uninterrupted access, permanent storage, or compatibility with every school, browser, Canvas configuration, or MCP client.
8. Disclaimers and limits
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Canvas Pilot is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Canvas Pilot and the people who operate it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages; lost coursework, grades, data, opportunities, or profits; or decisions made from stale, incomplete, or AI-generated information. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liability that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.
9. Suspension, termination, and deletion
You may stop using Canvas Pilot at any time. To request account or cloud-data deletion, sign in and submit an Account request under Settings → Help & feedback. Canvas Pilot may restrict or suspend access when reasonably needed to address a terms violation, security risk, abuse, legal requirement, or service shutdown. Where practical, notice will be provided.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms may change as Canvas Pilot changes. The update date above will be revised, and material changes will be presented through the service or another reasonable notice. If you do not agree to revised terms, stop using the service.
11. Contact
Use the private Help & feedback form inside Canvas Pilot for account, security, or data requests. Use the public issue tracker only for non-sensitive product issues. Both routes are explained on the support page.
